Marvell Sinks Despite Beat as AI Trade Turns Choosy

Marvell posted record revenue and beat estimates, yet the stock fell hard after hours, a sign investors are no longer paying up for every AI-infrastructure name.

Market Snapshot

All figures are indicative opening levels as of this morning, August 28.

Futures point to a mixed, cautious open, with the Nasdaq the soft spot as traders wait on Fed Chair Warsh at Jackson Hole and the AI-chip trade sorts winners from losers.

The Dow points up around 0.07 percent while Nasdaq futures ease around 0.30 percent, the VIX sits near 14.5, the dollar holds near 99, gold slips toward 4,583, silver eases to just under 69, and WTI softens to around 83.

CrowdStrike surged on a strong guide, Intel firmed on the read-through from Nvidia’s blowout outlook, and Marvell dropped despite a record quarter.

Main Story

Marvell beat on both revenue and profit and still fell around 8 percent after hours, the clearest sign yet that the AI trade has grown selective after a year of buying almost anything tied to the buildout.

Chart of the Day

Marvell drifted near its highs around 256 into the print as buyers pressed the recent range.

The stock then gapped lower to around 236 after hours as a beat-and-raise got sold on valuation.

That leaves the prior high near 256 as overhead resistance and the story to watch from here.

Technical Trading

A few levels worth watching across the tape.

Texas News

NYSE Texas marked the opening of its physical Dallas headquarters at Old Parkland this week, with Governor Greg Abbott ringing the closing bell.

The move plants a national exchange operator on Texas soil as the state keeps drawing capital markets infrastructure away from the coasts.
